Super Bowl LIV Ads, Jason Momoa & Comma Music

Did You See The Spot?

By now, you’ve probably seen all of the Super Bowl ads and their rankings. There were some really great spots this year! We’re excited to share that our music was featured in of one of them! USA Today’s AdMeter ranked this spot at #5, the highest Super Bowl ad ranking Rocket Mortgage has ever received. That’s right–we helped Jason Momoa #GetComfortable in his Super Bowl ad debut with Highdive for Rocket Mortgage by Quicken Loans.

The Right Music Sets the Tone

Finding the right music for this spot really helped set the tone for the audience. And in this case, a track from our library and original scoring was exactly what this picture needed. When we first started working on the music for that opening scene in Jason Momoa’s car, we were looking at hip hop and jazz tracks. But when we learned that Momoa listens to metal music, we took the search in a completely different direction. From there, we landed on a great track our composer, Pete Schmidt, had written. Incidentally, you can license that track, “Raise Your Rancid Fists You Pathetic Scum,” through our library, too!

The piano track you hear when Momoa steps inside his home, was actually composed while the spot was being edited. Composer Larry Pecorella, had a mobile rig set up in one conference room creating the piece. Meanwhile the creatives and editor were working on the edit down the hall. At the same time, Pete was in his studio working on the guitar part that Momoa plays on screen.

The key to getting “Pianoa” to work was to balance out the track. It had to sound like it was coming from the home stereo. But it still had to fit the picture and tell the story. For Pete’s “Skinny Arm Boogie,” he needed to find a melody that fit the visual of Momoa playing on screen. It also had to feel homey and comfortable. See what we did there?

We’re more than a little biased, but the charts back it up, too; Rocket Mortgage’s “Get Comfortable” with Jason Momoa won this year’s Super Bowl in our books!
