The founders of Comma—Larry Pecorella and Bryan Rheude—believe that “the play’s the thing.” Both have a fairly simple and pure philosophy to life and work: “Enjoy what you do, pursue it with passion and success will follow.” Since launching in 2001, Comma has embraced these ideals as a sort of mantra—and it’s proven true for the music production house.
While Comma’s core pursuit remains composing original music for picture, we have spawned partners to cover every angle of sound production, including a high-end sound design and post mix facility, a unique music library, and a music licensing division that grants access to our strong relationships within the music industry, encompassing artists, managers, music publishers and record labels.
Comma’s roots are (and remain) in Chicago, but its composers and producers are found in Santa Monica and New York City as well. Comma’s composers are talented and hip, indeed—ranging from orchestral and genre specialists to hip-hop, DJ and rock enthusiasts. Even our NYC Executive Producer is a dance/electronic music guru from back-in-the-day. In short, our award-winning pool of talent has every base—er, bass—covered.
Naturally, you will find state-of-the-art studios at Comma, where its team of composers and producers turn their creative impulses into sonic reality. Comma’s Chicago space won I.D. magazine’s Environment of the Year award, while its new Santa Monica facility is L.E.E.D. Platinum-certified. At both locations, Comma utilizes the latest software and hardware, along with some of the dustiest, old school mics, guitar amps and synths. But Comma’s composers and producers are also creatures of comfort, so don’t be surprised to find ample sunlight, high ceilings and mouth-watering treats at our locations.
Here at Comma, we love what we do—and we want to be the best at it. Considering the variety of accolades we’ve received and the creative assignments we’ve worked on, we’re on the right track, with all systems go.
